Withdrawals & Refunds

If you need to withdraw from a Continuing and Professional Studies course, it’s up to you to let Sheridan know, in writing. If you don’t officially withdraw from your course, a grade of 'NE' (credit not earned) will go on your transcript. NE indicates failure to attend, complete or properly withdraw from a course and reflects poorly on your transcript.

Officially withdrawing from an on campus course is slightly different than withdrawal from an online course. Please read below to know what to expect if you need to withdraw from a course in either environment.

For some courses, there are special withdrawal policies. Course-specific withdrawal policies are outlined in the course information.

Note: The policies listed below are for domestic students only. International students are charged a $125 withdrawal fee.

Material Fees: Material fees are non-refundable if you withdraw on or after the day of the course.

If you need to withdraw from a course, please notify the Office of the Registrar in writing. Your written withdrawal can be emailed to: capswithdraw@sheridancollege.ca or mailed to:

Refund cheques are issued for cash, money order and debit card payments. Credit cards payments will be refunded to the credit card. Please allow four to six weeks for refund processing.

Please note, special refund policies applicable to certain programs are shown in the program or course information. In many cases, the withdrawal charge is higher and more notice is required.

Withdrawal due to personal medical reasons

If you are hospitalized or unable to finish the course due to medical reasons, you can submit medical documentation*, along with your written notice, to the Office of the Registrar and be evaluated for a partial refund. Under these circumstances, academic reference will be removed from your transcript.

*Medical reasons or conditions for withdrawal must be documented by a medical professional. The documentation must receive final approval from Sheridan College. The application for a medical withdrawal must be received by Sheridan College within 5 days from the occurrence of the medical condition that prevented you from finishing the course. You must also state that it has not been possible for you to go to work in the claim period, and be prepared to submit verification documentation to that effect, if considered necessary.

Course Cancellations and Full Courses

If Sheridan cancels your course, you can transfer to another course or receive a full refund. Either way, you’ll be contacted by phone or email to make sure you know the course has been cancelled and to discuss your options.

Courses marked 'Full' do not have wait lists so register early to avoid disappointment.

Transfers

On-Campus TRANSFERS

For Full-Term Courses (10 – 14 weeks)

You can transfer from one course to another by sending your request to the Office of the Registrar before the 3rd scheduled class. As long as space is available in the new course, you can be transferred.

If there is a fee difference between the two courses, the difference will be calculated and you will be advised if you owe or are owed fees.

For Short Duration Courses, Workshops or Seminars

Similar to the Full-Term course transfer, you can transfer between short duration courses, workshops or seminars, but you must submit your request at least 24 hours before the start of the first session.
