Course Information

The majority of classes are held one night per week for 14 weeks, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. We have term starts in September, January and April/May. Some course start dates vary, and can be offered outside of the regular semester timelines outlined above. Please refer to our website during this time. Most courses are being held online via either an asycnchronous (self-paced) approach (campus location titled ""Online Sheridan"" or ""OntarioLearn""), synchronous (live virtual classroom) approach (campus location titled ""Virtual Campus"") or in-person (most in-person classes are held in our Missisauga campus. However, depending on the course, Brampton or Oakville locations might be available).

Your class will be at the campus shown on your registration confirmation. For information about your class location, use the Sheridan login that was sent to your personal email address and log into MyStudentCentre. There you will find confirmation about your registration as well as your classroom number and course details.

If Sheridan cancels your course, you can transfer to another course or receive a full refund. You will  be contacted by phone or email to make sure you know the course has been cancelled and to discuss your options.

The cost of text books is not included in the course fee. If you need a textbook or other materials for your course, it will be listed in the course outline You can buy textbooks from the Sheridan College Bookstore online or visit the physical stores at the Davis, Trafalgar or Hazel McCallion Campuses.

There is no restriction to the number of Continuing & Professional Studies courses you enrol in. Generally Sheridan Continuing and Professional Studies students take a maximum of 2 courses per semester. You need to consider the study time required with each course in addition to the class time. Many students take one course per term. Enrolment begins for each semester approximately one and a half months before the start of the new semester. We encourage students to review course outlines, listed on the course page for more information on the course expectations.

There is no definite way for a student to know if a class will be cancelled.  Registering for a class will increase the chances of it being held.  Your course fees will be refunded to you in full if the class must be cancelled.

Students can check their course textbook requirements in the course outline.Please visit the Sheridan Online College Bookstore or visit the Sheridan bookstore locations at the Davis, Trafalgar, or Hazel McCallion Campus to purchase the textbooks.

Evening and weekend courses are offered through our Continuing & Professional Studies. Explore Sheridan's 800+ part-time courses, workshops and programs. Many offerings are recognized by professional associations, allowing you to enhance skills and career opportunities.

We recognize that flexibility in learning options is important to many students. That's why we offer more than 250 courses that can be taken online - whenever and wherever you prefer.

There are many differences but generally Post Secondary Education refers to programs leading to diplomas, advanced diplomas, graduate certificates, and degrees.  Most post-Secondary programs are offered full-time during the day but Sheridan offers some Post Secondary programs on a part time basis where courses are scheduled during the day and evenings. Continuing and Professional Studies refers to part-time studies where courses are typically offered in the evenings, weekends and online. Continuing and Professional Studies offers professional development, upskilling and reskilling, and general interest courses leading to Certificates, Micro-Credentials, and Recognition of Achievements. Many of the programs are also recognized by industry leaders and associations, allowing students to pathway their education towards professional desingations. If you are following a program to earn a Certificate through Continuing & Professional Studies, there are mandatory classes that you must successfully complete to graduate from that program. Individual courses offered in Continuing & Professional Studies may require a prerequisite. The description of the course will include information on a prerequisite if it is required.

Delivery Options

With over 200 online courses falling under 22 programs and multiple learning environments, Sheridan offers the flexibility and freedom to learn when it’s convenient for you. But learning online doesn’t mean you’re all on your own. The majority of Sheridan’s online courses are supported by online Instructors to help you along the way. Registration Information

Registration information can be found on the Continuing & Professional Studies homepage under How to Register.

For credit subjects, you must be a Grade 12 Graduate or a mature student, 19 years of age or over. Admission requirements vary.  Be sure to review the admission requirements for the specific course you want to take. Admission requirements are available in the course description (within the program section).

All instruction within Sheridan is in English.  Your communication, listening, comprehension, reading and writing skills must be at a level sufficient to meet the demands of post secondary study in order to be successful.

If you know your Sheridan Username but can’t remember your password, go into Sheridan’s password reset tool page to set up your new password. If you are unable to successfully retrieve or reset your login details, contact us at 905-874-4440. Alternatively, you may contact Sheridan’s Information Technology Service Desk at servicedesk@sheridancollege.ca or 905-845-9430 x 2150.

Once you have registered for a course, we will send you the Welcome Letter, with some important student information, including Sheridan Student ID, Email, Username and Temporary Password. It takes around 24 hours after the registration to receive the Welcome Letter, and it will be sent to the personal email address that the student used during the registration. If you do not receive it during this time, please contact us at 905-874-4440 for assistance.

A prerequisite is a course (or other qualification) required as preparation for entry to another course. It is your responsibility to ensure that all prerequisite requirements are met before registering for a course. Students who do not meet prerequisite requirements may be asked to withdraw from the course.

When registering on-line, a confirmation is e-mailed to you once the registration process is complete. Welcome letter is typically emailed to students within 48 hours after the registration. If you do not receive your Welcome Letter during this time, please contact us at: caps@sheridancollege.ca or call 905-874-4440.

Once your registration is processed, you will aslo be able to view your enrollment through your myStudent Centre account.

There are three academic intakes available to students. Fall intake that typically starts in September and continues through to the end of July. Winter intake classes are scheduled from early January to mid April, and Spring semester with the majority of the classes starting in April/May and continue through to end of July and mid of August. Sheridan does not offer prospective students to audit classes. Space in the classes is limited to those who have paid fees to attend.

For the majority of 14 week credit classes, you must be enrolled by the date of the third scheduled class. For Ontario Learn classes you may register until one calendar week after the start date listed of the class that you wish to take. Please refer to important dates.

All courses at Sheridan are in English. You should be confident in your ability to read, write and comprehend English for maximum success in your course.

Make sure you're eligible to take the course(s) you're interested in by reviewing the course-specific admission requirements in the course description (within the program section) as well as Sheridan's general admission requirements.

Policies and Procedures

Sheridan recognizes that some students who enter a program at the College will have earned post-secondary credits at other recognized post-secondary institutions and may wish to apply these credits towards a Sheridan credential. 

To apply for Advanced Standing, complete the advanced standing form  and submit it along with your transcripts and course outlines for the courses you completed at another post-secondary institution to the Office of The Registrar.

There are no scheduled attendance requirements for our Online courses. However, students are responsible for complying with all due dates assigned by their facilitator, which will be shared at the start of the course. For in person, or Virtual campus courses an attendance record of 80% is expected for all Continuing and Professional Studies courses, and is mandatory for the Leadership Development Series courses, and the Proficiency in Conversational French courses, or as indicated on CAPS website program page. Intensive courses in the Leadership Development Series program require 100% attendance.

Students who successfully completed all of the program requirements, are required to submit Status Check Applciation here, https://sheridancollege.formstack.com/forms/caps_status_check_form to request a credential. In the application, you will need to include your Sheridan Student ID Number, Program Name and Credential you are seeking. It will take approximately 4-6 weeks for a response.

Before you apply, please ensure that you have received your final grades for all compulsory courses in your student centre. To access your final grades, login to Sheridan Central using your Sheridan username and password. Click on MyStudent Centre. Under the 'Academics' banner, choose Grades from the drop-down menu.

If you have had previous learning experience, either in the workforce or in the classroom, find out how it can be applied towards your education. Submit the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition application (PLAR) and payment if you'd like to apply your work / life experience, independent study or on-the-job training to your Sheridan education. You can submit your PLAR application to caps@sheridancollege.ca.

If you are a Continuing Education student and have missed an online, or in-class test, assignment, or quiz:

- Approval must be granted by your instructor to complete your test/assignment/quiz on a day other than the original test date.

- Once approval has been granted, please forward the email from your instructor to caps@sheridancollege.ca

UNDC stands for Undeclared and is the status assigned to all Continuing & Professional Studies students. Once you have completed all of the required courses for your program complete the Status check form below to request your credential. You will need to include your name, student number, program and the credential you are seeking.  UNDC will then change to the name of the program to which you have been awarded the credential. https://sheridancollege.formstack.com/forms/caps_status_check_form

A grade is given for a course and transcript can be requested, as proof of completion. Some programs provide certificates; please refer to the Continuing & Professional Studies site for more details. Fees

To be fully registered for a course, all fees must be paid-in-full at the time of registration. Course fees are shown in each course description. All fees include administrative, lab and/or material fees, and HST if applicable.
 

Accepted payment methods are: credit card payments and online banking services (student account). Please note that Sheridan does not accept in-person payments at any of our campuses.

To access a receipt confirming your payment:

Course fees must be paid in full at the time of registration.

Students enrolled in a Continuing Education program can apply for a Sheridan Continuing Education Bursary! This bursary aims to provide financial support to students with low family income and resources. Eligible students will receive up to $200 per course, for a maximum of $500 per academic term. A receipt confirming your payment and registration in a course can be made available to you.

To access a receipt confirming your payment:

  • visit http://mystudentcentre.sheridancollege.ca/,
  • Sign in using your Sheridan username and password
  • Under Finances, select "View my receipts" from the dropdown menu and click ">>".
  • Select the receipt you wish to display, and click on the printer icon.

Alternatively, the company can register for you by sending an e-mail request for invoicing with the company letterhead, contact name and phone number included to sponsored@sheridancollege.ca. Your personal information and course selection is required and should be included within the e-mail.  Sheridan will invoice the company for your course fee.
