This is a part-time program and is delivered via online (asynchronous) and virtual (synchronous) delivery.

What are Micro-Credentials?

Micro-Credentials certify an individual’s achievements in specific skill sets and differ from traditional credentials, such as degrees or diplomas. They are shorter, personalized, and enables employment in specific roles. At the end of this program, you will receive an official document credential from Sheridan Continuing & Professional Studies.

Program Description

The National Payroll Institute's (NPI) (formally known as the Canadian Payroll Association/CPA) Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (PCP) is the foundation for a successful career in payroll. Certification will help you gain an in-depth understanding of the legislative requirements to keep your organization compliant throughout the annual payroll cycle. When you get certified, you join a growing community of supportive professionals and gain access to the resources you need to stay current and compliant.

PCP certification requires three core payroll courses, an Introduction to Accounting course transfer credit and one year of weighted, related work experience.

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Process the accounting cycle for a business
  • Prepare and balance worksheets accordingly
  • Understand payroll-related legislation affecting organizations
  • Utilize tools to find information and apply to different scenarios related to pay
  • Calculate individual pay and non-individual pay
  • and more!

Upon completion of the program course requirements, students will be awarded Sheridan's Payroll Specialist Micro-Credential.

Please note the four (4) compulsory courses in the Payroll Specialist Micro-Credential program are the required courses for earning the PCP certification from the National Payroll Institute. Students must successfully complete all four (4) courses with minimum grade average of 65% on both the final exam and each course. Students must also complete one (1) year related work experience in order to be eligible for the PCP Certification.

Students must then reach out to the NPI for next steps regarding obtaining the PCP certification.
