Virtual Production (VP) is a rapidly growing area that capitalizes on evolving technology. By combining CGI, game-engines, and virtual reality technologies, VP enables completely new ways of making film and TV. The creative possibilities are endless – from designing and manipulating scene cinematics and gameplay logic, to set design, to Previs animations. VP techniques impact many core disciplines within filmmaking including cinematography, production design, visual effects (VFX), animation, directing and many more. Sheridan’s Virtual Production: Art Direction in Unreal Engine course as part of the Virtual Production Micro-credential will introduce you to the core technical and filmmaking skills required to work on a VP project for an LED stage driven by Unreal Engine.
Central to developing an understanding of how to work on in virtual production is access to an LED stage and on-set training, combined with the core skills and knowledge required to work as a member of a virtual production team. This micro-credential offers both theoretical and practical opportunities for learning delivered through weekly online seminars and hands-on workshops at the Sheridan Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT), Stage 10 Pinewood Toronto Studios.
Participants will need access to:
- Unreal Engine (Free)
- PC Workstation capable of running Unreal Engine (see Unreal system requirements)
- 2 monitor or ultrawide setup recommended for Online Learning
- Note: in some cases, remote access for students to an appropriate machine may be possible, but students will still need their own computer from which to access the remote system, and 2 monitors are still recommended
- Access Unreal Education Centre (Free)
Participants will be expected to be on location at The Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT) located at 225 Commissioners Street, Toronto, for mandatory scheduled practice with Unreal Workstation(s), Digital Cinema Technologies, and LED Wall.
