IEN Competency Upgrade Pathway (CCIEN) Information

« back to results

Image The courses in the IEN Upgrade Pathway program is now offered at Sheridan College Continuing and Professional Studies via OntarioLearn. To enroll, applicants must meet the school’s admission requirements and confirm with the school program coordinator that the courses selected fulfill the applicant’s competency gaps.

Additional Information

Program Description

The Competency Upgrade Pathway is for Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) who want to qualify as Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) in Ontario. The Pathway consists of 13 courses, 11 theory and 2 skills-based.  The theory courses are delivered asynchronously online through OntarioLearn.

The flexible delivery approach allows IENs to address the specific competency gaps, as identified by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in their assessment letter, without having to complete a full program/pathway. The student is expected to take only those courses needed to address the competencies outlined in their individual letter of assessment.

Application Process

To apply for the IEN Competency Upgrade Pathway Program, please complete the application form here.

For more information regarding the CNO’s Competency Assessment Program for IENs, including language proficiency requirements, please visit the CNO website.
