Program Delivery

This is a part-time program and is delivered via online (asynchronous) and virtual (synchronous) classroom. 

Program Description

Do you redecorate every room you walk into? Do you have a knack for colour, textures, pattern, and shine? Can you see the possibility of unique spaces in both residential and industrial planning? You can start taking those ideas from your imagination into the real world. This program prepares you to launch a successful new career or start your own business as an Interior Decorator – the possibilities are limitless.

Sheridan's streamlined Visual Design Interior Decorating Certificate program will help you develop your own style and improve your career prospects in residential decorating. You'll learn from experienced industry professionals and build the artistic and business skills needed to succeed with your own style. Our introductory courses cover everything required to get your own business off the ground, including courses residential drafting, interior finish selections, colour theory and application, and more.

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Understand concepts of design and apply them to residential or commercial interior settings
  • Utilize colour theory, the colour wheel, and colour schemes to create eye-catching spaces 
  • Explore drawing and composition in relation to interior spaces and design 
  • Implement manual drafting techniques to draft spaces 
  • Distinguish between appropriate interior finishes selections to add the finishing touch to spaces 
  • Review the fundamental basics of starting your own business

Decorators and Designers Association of Canada

This program is in association with the Decorators and Designers Association of Canada (DDA). This association has been within the industry for 25 years, and is the most influential association for design professionals across Canada. Sheridan is a recognized institution, which means our courses meet their standard requirements of study.
