Case Management Competency Training for Social Services (CCMTS) Information

« back to results

Image Social service case management is about meeting the complex needs of individuals and their families. Professionals who work in this field require the skills and competencies to be able to carefully assess an individual’s or family’s existing situation, make recommendations and arrangements for social services, and evaluate the impact of these services and support.

This program of six asynchronous learning modules will prepare you with key competencies focused on goal setting, motivational interviewing, change management, understanding agency and resiliency, and trauma-informed care.

Please Note:
In order to earn the micro-certification badge per course, students must achieve a passing grade of 75% per course.

Additional Information

The Case Management Competency Training for Social Services is part of the Future Ready Initiative sponsored by the Aga Khan Council of Canada and in partnership with Sheridan College. It is an integrated, institutional response to some of the most significant and urgent changes facing Canadians today. This program responds to five inter-related needs within the community:

1. Family development plan

2. Future of Work

3. Settlement Excellence

4. Community Mental Well-being

5. Youth Mentorship

This training is made up of six stand-alone micro-certifications that addresses one core competency per module required for the Navigator role. The core competencies have been identified from those established in existing Case Worker certificate courses and Aga Khan Council for Canada education goals for the Navigator role. The competencies identified can be linked to the key areas of the Future Ready Initiative Case Management Process.

Specific competencies covered in these modules will include:

  • Discovery - motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, supporting newcomers
  • Family Plan Development – goal-setting principles
  • Family Plan Implementation Strategies – empowerment and fostering independence

Each micro-certification will be 60-90 minutes of self-directed, asynchronous learning  activities that participants review at their own pace. Upon completion of each micro-certification, there will be a final assessment for participants to demonstrate mastery of the key competency for the module.
