Program Description

Whether you love capturing snapshots of life, or if you're looking to pursue a career in photography, Sheridan's Digital Photography Certificate program allows you to better capture your world through the lens of your camera. Our curriculum boasts courses in relevant and popular areas of photography, including areas of interest specific to portraiture, weddings, corporate, small event, fashion and family photography. The combination of hands-on experience and techniques gives any up-and-coming photographer the skills they need to translate their skills into real world experience.
From beginners to more enthusiastic shutterbugs, learn how to blend your passion and technical skills into a lucrative and sustainable career. Discover your niche and dedicate yourself to an area of photography that captures you.

Material Requirement(s):

Students are required to bring their own DSLR or mirrorless camera. While we are conducting virtual classes, it is required for students to have access to speed lights and / or flash rings.

Important Program Note(s):

Courses within this program will require you to take photos and upload them as jpg files to Sheridan’s online Learning Management System (SLATE).   For students who are unfamiliar with jpg files, it is recommended that you read up about the built-in image editing software in your computer.  With your computer’s software, you can cut, crop, save or export a photo in jpg format using this built-in image editing program.  The default software is called MS Paint for Windows and Preview or Photos for Mac. Both Mac and PC will allow you to copy an image from its source, that is, your camera's SD card (a flash memory card), paste it into the editor, crop it, resize it, save or export it.  It is highly recommended that students get acquainted with their computer’s editing software before they start a course.

Adobe Program & Course Requirements:

Upon registration, students will need to register with Adobe and download a license linked to their Sheridan username. A license can be downloaded by visiting https://getadobe.sheridancollege.ca/. For on-campus classes, upon the start date of the course, students will only be able to participate in the MAC lab portion of this course if they've downloaded the appropriate license and logged in with their username and password. You will not be able to access the MAC labs without this information. For virtual classes, students will need to sign up for the license prior to the class start date. For information regarding the downloading of licenses, please contact our IT department at (905) 845-9430 ext. 2150 prior to the start date of your class.

On-Campus Experience

  When on-campus, students can expect instruction in a classroom, photography studio, MAC lab, and more.
