Program Description

For those interested in a lucrative career in Data Science, Sheridan's Data Analyst Micro-Credential is designed to be the first step towards achieving your professional goals. Designed to be a foundation series of courses that build on fundamental statistical and programming skills, students can expect to gain a competitive advantage within the Data Science industry. If you're interested in understanding the 'why' from an analytical perspective, our Data Analyst program can help you achieve job-ready knowledge and skills required to solve real-world problems.

Through the 'practitioner' lens of Data Science, students will be introduced to the wide world of data science programming languages such as SQL, R, and Python, with an expanded knowledge of Tableau to better understand data visualization. The courses are designed as building blocks, with students being further introduced to Big Data Tools and deep learning scripting. Students will begin to understand analyzing, exploring, predicting, and reporting on small and large data sets for various industries, and initiating problem solving techniques to facilitate better business decisions. This program is ideal for a candidate who is focused on transitioning to data science from another industry and enjoys working through complex problems that they might experience in the workplace.

By the end of this program, students will be able to:

  • Understand and apply the fundamentals of data science and predictive modeling
  • Utilize advanced statistical concepts
  • Use tools and technologies related to data mining and analysis
  • Provide impactful strategies for presentation of data, with solid business-related outcomes

Important: Technical Requirements for INFO70280 Data Cleansing:

Access to course materials and assignments will be available on Sheridan's Learning and Teaching Environment (SLATE). Students will need reliable access to a computer/tablet and the internet for attending online sessions. To complete the required assessments and experience hands on practice, students will need to have a Windows PC running with this min configuration: Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, 1TB HDD Space. During the course, Virtual Machine and SQL Azure DB creation activities on Microsoft Azure will be shown by using a Trial Subscription with some free credits. The VM could be an alternative for MAC Users, but each student will be responsible for managing the Microsoft Azure Subscription on his/her own. Typically, the free credits are sufficient for completion of this course, however, students are responsible for their personal spending according to their own resource creations in their Azure subscription. Sheridan will not be responsible for costs associated with student’s personal accounts.

Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) Examination Information

The Data Analyst Micro-Credential will help students to gain the foundational knowledge and build analytical skills required to take the Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) examination. The CAP examination is the premiere certification for analytics professionals and practitioners. Students can take the examination to advance their own career or set themselves apart from the competition. Sheridan's courses lay a foundational step in the pathway to this examination.
