Program Description

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is the network of physical objects and devices embedded with sensors, software, and network connectivity, enabling the collection and exchange of data. This Micro-Credential program has been designed and validated in collaboration with industry partners; 3M Canada; DZS Industries; Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium; Magna International, Next Generation Manufacturing; SEW Eurodrive and Proctor & Gamble Inc.

Students will apply the basic principles and practical skills of IIoT technology required to create, deploy, and manage IIoT systems at an entry level. Program graduates will be equipped to move into roles related to industrial automation, systems integration, and smart manufacturing. Potential career paths include positions in electrical and electronics technology, industrial instrumentation, and technical roles in IIoT implementation.

By the end of this program, you will be able to:

Integrate systems: Connect sensors to Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) networks and ensure seamless communication between devices.
Apply basic Python programming: Use Python to gather, process, and analyze data effectively. Analyze data: Interpret data from IIoT systems to optimize performance and make data-driven decisions.
Solve problems: Apply critical thinking skills to troubleshoot issues and improve system functionality.
Manage projects: Oversee IIoT projects from concept to deployment, ensuring successful implementation and project completion.

In this micro-credential, you’ll carry out an Internet of Things (IoT) implementation assessment within an existing workplace environment. This project includes creating a report, which serves as an example of your work and newly acquired skills.
You’ll also gain practical experience through activities like building a functional IoT network at home. These tasks are designed to help you apply what you’ve learned in real-world situations.

Software Requirements:

Participants will need an internet connection with a minimum 5 Mbps upload/download speed and a laptop with at least: CPU: i3; Ethernet port; Windows; 4 GB RAM. Participants will be required to download the necessary packages prior to starting the program.
