Build on your Personal Support Worker education and prepare for the next stage of your healthcare career. Sheridan’s
PSW to PN pathway provides eligible PSW graduates with the academic upgrading required to pursue admission to Sheridan’s
Practical Nursing diploma program.
With this unique pathway, courses are taken as a set to ensure you gain the knowledge needed to join Sheridan's Practical Nursing (PN) program. Upon admittance and successful program completion of all four courses listed, you will gain the entry requirements needed for admittance into Sheridan's PN program in a future academic term.

Who Is This Program For?
This pathway is designed for
Personal Support Worker graduates from an Ontario community college who are ready to continue their education and work toward becoming a Practical Nurse.
What You'll Learn
Through four required pathway courses, you'll strengthen your knowledge in key areas that will help prepare you for nursing studies:
- Biology - build foundational knowledge of biological concepts relevant to further healthcare study.
- Chemistry - develop foundational chemistry knowledge and problem-solving skills.
- Math - strengthen the mathematical skills required for further nursing education.
- Professional Transitions - explore concepts and skills that support your transition from Personal Support Worker to Practical Nursing education.
Career & Practical Outcomes
Successful completion of the four pathway courses, with the required grades and admission requirements, provides an academic pathway toward Sheridan’s
Practical Nursing diploma program.
Delivery Format & Schedule
These are virtual synchronous classes. Each course is 42 hours in length for a 14 week duration.
Admission Requirements
- Completed an Ontario Public College Personal Support Worker (PSW) program. At this time, degrees or diplomas from private colleges are not accepted.
- A minimum GPA of 3.4 from an Ontario Public College
- A minimum grade of 60% in a College level English course
Applicants who completed their PSW credential through a private career college are currently not eligible for this pathway. Students with a PSW certificate from a private college are encouraged to contact
capsadmissions@sheridancollege.ca for other pathway options. Admission requirements are subject to change.
Programming Notes & Requirements
Students must successfully complete all four pathway courses. Courses are intended to be completed together.
A minimum final grade of
65% in each pathway course is required to meet the academic requirements for admission into the full-time Practical Nursing program. Completion of the pathway does not replace any additional admission requirements that may apply to the Practical Nursing program. The PSW pathway course credits cannot be transferred from another institution.
Tuition & Fees
Tuition is charged per course, as opposed to per program. The cost of textbooks is not included in the course fees. Any textbook requirements will be listed in the course outline. You can buy textbooks from the online Sheridan Campus Store.
