Program Description
Every building needs a trained and qualified operator to keep it running: someone who monitors and maintains vital systems like heating, electricity, security and more. In Sheridan’s Building Environmental Systems Operator - Class 2 Recognition of Achievement program, you will get the training you need to operate a healthy, energy-efficient and economically-viable building in any sector.
Graduates of this program will demonstrate the ability to operate heating systems, air conditioning, refrigeration units and electrical systems. They will also learn air handling, preventive and corrective maintenance and study water treatment programs. Through hands-on practical learning, students will gain the foundational skills required to lead a lucrative career in building maintenance and facilities.
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Operate air-conditioning and refrigeration systems in buildings
- Understand the different control systems and how to navigate
- Describe technologies utilized for electrical devices
- Implement preventative and predictive approaches to maintenance of building equipment

Recommended Program Pathway
In order to achieve Sheridan's Building Environmental Systems Operator - Class 1 Certificate, it is recommended that students first complete all seven (7) courses listed underneath the header "Class 2 - Compulsory".
The recommended introductory course is ENGI79001 Building Systems - A Practical Overview.

Building Environmental Systems Operator Certificate
If you are interested in furthering your education in systems and maintenance, our program
Building Environmental Systems Operator Certificate is also available. This program consists of nine (9) courses, including the seven (7) fundamental courses part of this Recognition of Achievement. Students will expand their knowledge through additional courses in energy efficiency, hospital building designs, air systems designs, and more. Students who are interested can easily pathway into our Certificate program after completion of their Recognition of Achievement.
