As of Fall 2020, this program is in the process of being phased out. Students pursuing this credential will have until the end of the Spring/Summer 2022 term to complete program requirements. We will not be accepting new student.
Program Delivery
This is a part-time program, and is delivered via online (asynchronous) and virtual (synchronous) classroom.
Program Description
Research of current job postings show that employers are looking for accounting clerks, assistants and bookkeepers as key members of their finance departments. Sheridan’s Accounting Technician and Bookkeeping Certificate is designed with this need in mind. The certificate is for anyone who wants to secure an entry-level accounting or bookkeeping position, or for professionals with some experience who want to grow their knowledge base to advance in the field.
Courses are taught by industry professionals and practical topics including cost analysis and control, payroll and working with industry-standard accounting software. Students will also learn to maintain financial records and complete income taxes for both individuals and corporations according to the rules of the Canadian Income Tax Act.
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Prepare external financial statement components and disclosures consistent with financial accounting theory
- Describe the essential characteristics of accounting
- Explain the various steps in the accounting process
- Create internal reports and provide information for managerial decisions

We will be scheduling courses within the Accounting Technician and Bookkeeping program until the end of the Spring/Summer 2022 term to give everyone the opportunity to complete this certificate. Laptop Requirement
For some courses, students are required to bring their own laptop computer.
Society of Professional Accountants of Canada (SPAC)
Most of the courses within this program are approved by the Society of Professional Accountants of Canada (SPAC), and can exempt those who take them from similar courses in the SPAC curriculum for their Registered Professional Accountant (RPA) designation. Courses can be taken online or in-person, on a full-time or part-time basis, providing students with flexibility to fit any busy lifestyle.
