Micro-Credentials certify an individual’s achievements in specific skill sets and differ from traditional credentials, such as degrees or diplomas. They are shorter, personalized, and enables employment in specific roles. At the end of this program, you will receive an official document credential from Sheridan Continuing & Professional Studies. 

Program Description

Data science through an architectural lens - welcome to Sheridan's new Data Engineer Micro-Credential. With advancement of technology positively impacting our modern workplaces, our Data Engineer Micro-Credential is designed to be on top of the times. With an understanding of the advancement of both cloud technology and computers themselves, students will begin to understand the important role of a Data Engineer, and how it can produce the ability to create solid data architectural solutions to support data science roles. 

Students will begin to explore a foundational knowledge of data science, using modern technology such as Scala Programming, Google Cloud, and AWS. With each course acting as a building block, students can expect to be able to build data models independently. By the end of the program, students will be introduced to the wide world of data science programming languages such as SQL, R, and Python, with an expanded knowledge of Tableau to better understand data visualization. 

By the end of this program, students will be able to:

  • Understand and implement the use of Big Data Tools 
  • Execute deep learning scripting
  • Comprehend and conceptualize popular programming languages 
  • Process uninterrupted flow of data between servers and applications

This program is ideal for a candidate who wants to transition to a data engineer role, or has some background of machine learning and can prepare the data intelligently and efficiently. At the helm are experienced instructors and industry professionals in diverse corporate fields, including entertainment (Cineplex), technology (IBM), banking (CIBC and RBC) and more. Let our practical, hands-on courses, with deep roots in real-world scenarios, design a pathway into the data engineering field.

The Data Engineer Micro-Credential will help students to gain the foundational knowledge and build analytical skills required to take the Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) examination. The CAP examination is the premiere certification for analytics professionals and practitioners. Students can take the examination to advance their own career or set themselves apart form the competition. Sheridan's courses lay a foundational step in the pathway to this examination. 

Special Notes

This program can be completed within two (2) academic semesters. Due to relevancy, the entire certificate must be completed within three (3) years to stay on top of current trends.
